Stop 1 – Caerleon Roman remains and museum The National Roman Legion Museum houses a superb display of artefacts found in the region, as well as having demonstration rooms and the reconstruction of legionaries’ quarters. Whilst the Roman Baths and Amphitheatre give an insight into the life of the Roman Soldiers.
Stop 2 – The Newport Medieval Ship was discovered beneath the muddy banks of the River Usk in 2002 and excavated piece by piece,the ship is in the process of being preserved and re-constructed. Visitors are welcome to view the work and learn the ship’s story.
Stop 3 – Newport Transporter Bridge was built to allow tall ships to continue to make their way up the River Usk. A new visitor centre is being built and the bridge mechanism repaired so that in 2027 you will be able to take a trip on the suspended gondola or walk across the high level gantry.
Stop 4 – Tredegar House and Park was the ancestral home of the Morgan family for over 500 years and is now run by the National Trust. Visitors can hear all about the house’s history and eccentric owners or take a leisurely stroll through beautiful parkland.
Stop 5 – End the day at Newport Wetlands on the banks of the Severn Estuary - a haven for wildlife. The RSPB Visitor Centre is the ideal place to find out what you might see.
