Porthcawl - Sandy Bay

Sandy Bay Beach – a wide, sandy beach which gently slopes towards the sea and boasts views of the North Devon coast across the Bristol Channel. Popular with surfers, stand-up paddle boarders and families thanks to its very clean waters.

Description

Sandy Bay – also known locally as Coney Beach – sits adjacent to Porthcawl’s Eastern Promenade. At nearly a mile long, the beach is popular with surfers, bathers and families with plenty of attractions for children. It is a wide, predominantly sandy beach which is a popular spot for swimming during the summer months and surfing all-year round. There is a small headland towards the east side of the beach where you will find rock pools which can be explored at low tide.
The beach is just a short walk from the traditional seaside restaurants and amusements of Coney Beach as well as the recently refurbished Jennings building which is home to several food and drink establishments. Parking is plentiful at the nearby Salt Lake Car Park from where you can also access Porthcawl Marina and the picturesque lighthouse within a few minutes stroll along the prom.

A little further on to the west is the rocky Town beach and a fully accessible walk along the Esplanade with its numerous restaurants and shops.

RNLI Lifeguards patrol the beach from the end of April until the end of September and dogs are welcome to exercise on the beach during off-season from October 1st to April 30th.
