New Website
We hope you are having a great summer - busy and enjoying the sunshine.
Southern Wales has recently published a new website, focused on the Travel Trade. There are itineraries, lists of hotels that work with Travel Trade, and lots of ideas for places to include in your next visit to Cardiff and the rest of the region. Take a look and give us your feedback.
Planning for the Autumn and Winter
School holidays are just beginning but now is the time to plan for autumn and Christmas visits - here are some ideas:
Food festivals taking place this year include:
- Caerphilly Cheese Festival 29 & 30 August.
- New South Wales Vegan Food Festival in Penarth 5 September.
- The Abergavenny Food Festival 19 & 20 September.
- Newport Food Festival 3 October.
You can even witness or get involved in the grape harvest at our vineyards.
Autumn will bring natures beautiful colours - the Wye Valley is our own “Little New England”, and there are lots of gardens that come to life with these late colours - for instance Llanover Gardens and Dyffryn Gardens - check out our new Gardens itinerary for ideas.
September is a a great time to explore behind the scenes with the Open Doors Festival - lots of medieval churches open their doors, there are tours of cemeteries and museums open their stores - all opportunities that are not available throughout the year. There are 30 sites already listed for Southern Wales, with more being added daily.
Christmas is just around the corner - Cardiff’s annual festive market will start on 12 November and the Bute Park Lights event starts on 19 November. Details of other events in the city will be announced early in September.
Caerphilly always puts on a great show with the Caerphilly Light Switch-On and Fireworks Display featuring the River of Light Lantern Parade on 20 November, followed the next day by the Christmas Market.
The Sun is shining at National Museum Cardiff
An amazing seven‑metre‑wide artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram that brings the Sun closer than ever before, in a way that’s safe and spectacular - in the entrance hall until 31 August 2026.

Looking for evening entertainment for your group - then how about a spooky tour.

We are counting down to the Grande Depart 2027 - and reminding everybody that this is a great region to get on your bike - whether on the road, a mountain, or a trail on the route of a former tramway - Southern Wales is great for cycling. Indeed, you can even explore Cardiff with a bike tour!
Land of Song Festival 2027
Since launched, over 19,000 voices have registered to be part of this amazing festival which is taking place at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, 6 - 9 May 2027. If you have a choir which would like to be involved, then take a look at the website.
Elvis Festival
Porthcawl is getting ready to host the annual Elvis Festival - the worlds largest celebration of The King. So done your blue suede shoes and head to the coast 25 - 27 September for a weekend of music and dancing.
