The Royal George in Tintern named best place to stay in Wales by The Times and The Sunday Times.

The Royal George in Tintern, dates back to 1598 and is just a stone’s throw from the ruins of Tintern Abbey. It reopened in September 2025 after a complete renovation with heritage bedrooms named after notable historical and nautical figures. The interiors were designed by Camilla Kelly, inspired by the beauty of the Wye Valley, and created with the help of Welsh craftsmen.

The guide praises its recent revamp and said that “The new Upper Deck restaurant is well worth planning a stay around.”

Lots happening at National Museum Cardiff

The Gwen John: Strange Beauties exhibition has opened at National Museum Cardiff to great applause.

Gwen John is one of Wales' most extraordinary artists. She saw the world differently — quietly, attentively, and with extraordinary depth. Gwen John: Strange Beauties is a once-in-a-generation exhibition, bringing together rarely seen works from Amgueddfa Cymru and collections from around the world to celebrate her 150th birthday.

"This is an invitation — to see the world through Gwen’s eyes — to slow down, look closer and discover the wonder in her work. Unmissable — for both newcomers and devoted admirers alike."

Also, in the main entrance hall is Museum of the Moon - an opportunity to stand beneath the Moon, to see every crater and contour up close. This stunning seven-metre sculpture by UK artist Luke Jerram features detailed NASA imagery accompanied by a magical soundscape. The Moon will be in place until 12th April. (Image by John Myers).

The Gwen John Exhibition is organised by Amgueddfa Cymru in partnership with National Galleries of Scotland, National Museum of Women in the Arts, and Yale Center for British Art.
