Autumn - time of harvests & food events
Autumn is nearly here - if your clients are interested in exploring the food and drink of Southern Wales, then this is the time to visit - with lots of food events, harvests and tastings to build into your tour.
Food events - Autumn 2026
These are regular, annual events to give you an idea of the events that you can base a tour around in 2027 or beyond. On top of these there are regular markets and venues like Cardiff and Newport Market Food Hall where you can taste our brilliant local produce.
Regular food festivals at this time of year include:
- Caerphilly Cheese Festival 29 & 30 August.
- New South Wales Vegan Food Festival in Penarth 5 September.
- St Fagans Food Festival - at National Museum of History - 12 - 13 September.
- The Abergavenny Food Festival 19 & 20 September.
- Mabon Food Festival - Caldicot Castle - 25 - 27 September.
- Newport Food Festival 3 October.
You can even witness or get involved in the grape harvest at our vineyards - and taste and buy some of the 2025 vintage.
- Llanerch Hotel and Vineyard - enjoy delicious food overlooking the vineyard, as well as a tour and tasting.
- Parva Farm Vineyard in the Wye Valley - self guided tours.
- Glyndwr Vineyard near Cowbridge - one of the oldest vineyards in Southern Wales.
- Sugarloaf Vineyard just outside Abergavenny - enjoy a tasting after a walk up the Sugar Loaf.
- White Castle Vineyard - with it’s own winery. Tours and tastings - just outside Abergavenny.
- The Dell Vineyard - near to Raglan. As well as tours they offer food and wine pop up events.
Loving Welsh Food - Tours and Masterclasses
Food tours around Cardiff - scheduled and private - and now, an opportunity to learn how to make Welsh Cakes or a range of Welsh dishes with an experienced and knowledgeable chef in the centre of Cardiff - a brilliant addition to your next tour.
September - Open Doors
As well as being a time of harvests and food, September is also a time to explore the hidden with the Cadw Open Doors event. In 2026 there are almost 40 events across Southern Wales; lots of these open each year.
- St. Illtud's Church, Llantwit Major, founded in around 500 A.D., the Church site is one of the oldest Christian locations in Britain and is, according to the Guinness Book of Records, Britain’s earliest ‘seat of learning’, where many well-known Celtic saints were educated.
- Meet the Romans at Venta Silurum - now known as Caerwent - combine with the Roman Legionary sites at Caerleon.
- The Risca Workman's Institute was built in 1916 (in the middle of WW1), and hosts Risca Museum which has many local and industrial artefacts on display. Experienced printers will be demonstrating the 1832 Columbian press.
