Description
Step back in time at the National Roman Legion Museum and explore life in a far-flung outpost of the mighty Roman Empire. In AD 75, the Romans built a fortress at Caerleon that would guard the region for over 200 years.
A Roman adventure awaits…
- explore the Barrack Room
- take a look at the oldest recorded piece of writing in Wales,
- see one of the largest gemstone collections found anywhere in the Roman Empire,
- get up close to a Bathstone Coffin with the remains of a 2nd/early 3rd century man
Did you know the Romans loved landscaping and introduced ornamental gardens to Britain? Come and enjoy our beautiful Roman Garden.
We are very close to the Roman Baths Museum and the open-air amphitheatre, so it's easy to combine a visit to all three sites.
We are part of Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales, a family of seven national museums across Wales.
