Cardiff is Calling

If you are visiting the UK, then why not add another capital city to your itinerary? Cardiff, the capital of Wales since 1955 is easy to reach from most parts of the UK, and only 2 hours by train from London Paddington station. A visit to this city gives the opportunity to explore a new culture, with a unique past and a lively language, Welsh.
Cardiff dates back to Roman times and Cardiff Castle is built on the remains of the Roman Fort; a Norman stronghold followed. The city developed as the most important coal port early in the 1800’s, and by the time John Crichton-Stuart, the 3rd Marquess of Bute, became owner of the Castle and Bute Park in the 1860’s, he was reportedly the richest man in the world. He used some of his wealth to turn the stone castle into a palatial home by collaborating with the architect, William Burges. Lavish and opulent interiors were created with murals, stained glass, marble, gilding and carvings – each room with its own theme. There’s even a wall surrounding the Castle topped with incredible stone animals. Cardiff Castle along with the surrounding Bute Park are the perfect way to start a visit to Cardiff.
A city with a lively food and drink scene combined with thriving independent retailers, many of which you will find in the Victorian and Edwardian arcades in the city.
