Surfs Up!

group shotThe perfect antidote for boredom, Porthcawl based mobile surf school, Cressey's Surf Academy will be running two weeks of their 'Surf's Up Summer Sessions' for those aged 8-16 years old at the start and end of August 2011.

Part of their popular Junior Surf Academy programme, each week runs 10am-3pm, Monday to Friday as an intensive learn to surf course for beginners, or surf skills development for intermediate young surfers.

As well as plenty of time developing surfing abilities in the water, the week will include a range of games and competitions covering surf safety, surf skills and the environment, with certificates for everyone who takes part on the course, special prizes and the opportunity to join the annual Junior Surf Academy awards ceremony later in the year.

Now in it's third season Cressey's Surf Academy has fast been growing from strength to strength, as Head Surf Coach and South African Surfing Champion, Ingemar Cressey explained, "Surfing is a great sport for people of all ages and abilities. Children and adults take part on their own or with friends, or we've had whole families come together and love every minute of it - a real bonding experience! It's one of a few sports in the UK that is rarely affected by the weather, and as such means there are lots of opportunities for young people to get out of the house, away from the computer and out down the beach.

Regardless of your level of fitness or sporting ability you'll always get something out of surfing - it's what makes it so addictive, and also such a great activity to get children involved in from a young age.

"
Surfing since the age of 8, and a Billabong sponsored South African Surfing Champion by the age of 12, Ingemar is passionate about passing on his skills and enthusiasm for surfing to the younger generation. Developing as an eco friendly surf school, Cressey's Surf Academy aims to provide professional, accessible and sustainable surfing experiences that benefit mind, body and soul without detriment to the environment.

As such the Surf's Up! Summer Session weeks are offered at reduced rates with big savings off standard prices, and flexible booking options ranging from the full five days to any combination of days or half days as suit. Prices range from just £20pp for a half-day session (all equipment and insurance provided) to £125pp for the full week.  All instructors are fully qualified Surf Coaches and Lifeguards, with sessions taking place at Aberavon Beach, Port Talbot.

As one customer commented, "It was difficult to get a 14 yr old boy out of bed on a Saturday morning who moaned and moaned until he put his wetsuit on…after 2hrs he was a different young man - that's all he talks about now, is surfing!...It's wonderful to be out in the fresh air as a family, enjoying the freedom of the waves."

Cressey's Surf Academy also run Open Group sessions every weekend, and private bookings anytime of the day or week.
