Hotels, Guest Houses and Farmhouses

If you're booking hotel or guest house-style accommodation in Wales, you'll need to know about the Wales Tourist Board's STAR QUALITY GRADING scheme:

5 Star Exceptional quality
4 Star Excellent quality
3 Star Very Good quality
2 Star Good quality
1 Star Fair to Good quality

The type of accommodation followed by its Star rating will be displayed on the establishments own plaques and signs as well as within holiday brochures - for example

3 Star Hotel
2 Star Farm
1 Star Guest House

Accommodation Categories

These are Hotels, Country Hotel, Guest House, Bed and Breakfast, Country House, Farm, Inn, Lodge, Restaurant with Rooms, Hostel-Bunkhouse-Camping Barn, Campus, Conference Centre and Activity Centre.

Prices are per person per night based on two people sharing a room. Supplements are payable on single rooms.

Self-Catering Accommodation

The star grades spell out the quality. They range from 1 star (fair to good quality) to 5 stars (exceptionally high quality). The grades reflect the overall quality of furnishings and decoration, not facilities. 3, 4 and 5 star accommodation will be entirely self-contained.

Caravan Holiday Home Parks

(including Touring Caravans & Camping Parks)

The star grade reflects the overall quality of the park. This scheme allows a small park to achieve a top grade if what it offers is of a very high standard. The 5 star grade is reserved for those parks of exceptional quality, and which also provide specific facilities or service.
