The Golden Coast
Plenty of variety
Don't be fooled by the name of this
area of Southern Wales. There's more to it than just the
coast, although there's plenty of that too. Inland the
terrain is undulating before rising into steep valleys. Ideal
for walking then!
Ogwr Ridgeway Walk 20km (13 miles)
Enjoy spectacular scenery and panoramic views as you walk
across the mountain ridges. From windswept heights to wooded
valleys, the scenery changes dramatically.
Bridgend Circular Walk 32 km (20 miles)
A fascinating walk which takes you through the countryside
around Bridgend in three easy stages passing through country
villages, past rivers, open countryside and the foothills of the
valleys.
Kenfig Castle &
Nature Reserve 8km (5 miles)
One of the most important sites for conservation in the
country, so nature lovers will really enjoy a stroll around here
trying to spot all the different species that live here.
History lovers will also be keen to discover the lost village of
Kenfig, a medieval village buried deep beneath the shifting sand
dunes. The keep of the castle can still be seen poking its
head above the sand
Llangynwyd Village &
Mynydd Margam 15 km (9 miles)
Mountain scenery, celtic settlements, roman remains and
Welsh legends combine to make this an invigorating hilltop walk.
Part of this route follows the dismantled line of the
Duffryn, Llynfi and Porthcawl Railway, which was completed in 1828
and built to serve ironworks in and around the Llynfi Valley.
River Ogmore & Merthyr Mawr 8km (5 miles)
Riverside paths, woodlands and ancient stones are featured
in this fascinating walk through the scenic beauty and history of
the Merthyr Mawr area. The village is an outstanding collection of
thatched cottages surrounded by meadows and woodlands. Stepping
stones take you across the river to Ogmore Castle. Built by the
Normans; it commands a strategic crossing point on the River
Ewenny.
There are plenty of other options too if you don't fancy any of
these walks. Contact one of the local Tourist Information
Centres for more details
